Welcome, Maria Hemmen!

In the Spring of 2019, the Thurston EDC hired Maria Hemmen to fill the position of Admin. & Finance Assistant. We asked Maria a few questions so we can get to know her better!

Thurston EDC: Tell us where you come from and about your career before joining us.
Maria: I have worked in several industries and positions, including owning a small business with my spouse several years ago. Most of my experience has been supporting companies in Human Resources, Benefits Administration, and Accounting.

Thurston EDC: Where did you live before moving to Olympia?
Maria: I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and went to college at Western Washington University, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.

Thurston EDC: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Maria: My spouse and I have teenage twin daughters who keep us busy with their activities. I enjoy spending time with family and friends.

Thurston EDC: How you view the role of the Thurston EDC in the local community, and what do you hope to see from the organization going forward?
Maria: It’s inspiring to be a part of an organization which helps our community thrive and grow. I look forward to learning more about each of the programs available to business owners to help them succeed.
