Business Spotlight: Ace Flooring Repair – Laying the Groundwork for the Next Generation
When Gerry Levy walks into a room, he sees more than just a damaged floor—he sees a chance to solve a problem, to help a homeowner breathe a little easier, and to carry on a trade that’s been in his family since the 1930s.
Gerry’s path into flooring started in the 1960s alongside his father. After a full career in the U.S. Navy, he moved to Lacey, WA, and took a job managing installations at Great Floors. Soon, a growing demand for high-quality flooring repairs—and Gerry’s natural drive—led him to earn his contractor’s license and begin taking on jobs of his own. By 2007, Ace Flooring Repair was officially up and running.
“I worked by myself for 25 years,” Gerry says. “But now I’m 75 ½, and I’ve brought my grandson into the business. He’s 21 and spent the last couple years roofing, but I wanted to give him something long-term. I’m teaching him everything I know.”
Even through tough economic times—and a pandemic—Gerry has kept a steady workflow, relying on his strong reputation and local referrals. “People don’t just recommend me, they highly recommend me,” he says. “That’s something I’m proud of.”
Earlier this year, Gerry discovered the Thurston Economic Development Council’s Washington Center for Women in Business (WCWB) through a notice in his Lacey water bill. That connection led him to Ashley Whitley, WCWB Program Manager, who helped design a new flyer and logo for Ace Flooring Repair.
“Ashley’s been fantastic,” Gerry says. “It’s been a tremendous response. I was cruising along solo, but now that I’ve brought my grandson in, I needed to take the next step—and Ashley helped make that possible.”
Gerry’s advice for new entrepreneurs? Get out there. “When I was getting started, I went to MLS Realtor breakfasts, stayed connected with local realtors and contractors. You’ve got to be visible.”
As for what’s next, Gerry’s aiming to stay active and hands-on through age 80—passing his skills and his stellar reputation on to the next generation.
From Boston roots and Navy service to decades of flooring experience in Thurston County, Gerry Levy’s story is a reminder that craftsmanship, connection, and a good name still go a long way.
