We recently sat down with Ken and Julie Brogan of Commercial Property Services Inc. Enjoy our conversation below!
Thurston EDC: How long have you been in business?
Ken and Julie: 32 years
Thurston EDC: What is your product, and who is your customer?
Ken and Julie: We build housing and, most generally, Multifamily (MF) over the past decade. We are currently developing a few single-family developments that we will build out over the next couple of years; however, MF will be our focus. We retain all of our MF properties as long-term holds.
Thurston EDC: What inspired you – or the founders – to start your business?
Ken and Julie: Starting a business allows a person or group to use their vision and drive to create and accomplish dreams. Our inspiration came from seeing a severe shortfall of personalized MF properties in our area.
Thurston EDC: What has been your most significant success to date?
Ken and Julie: We have completed many projects over the past few decades, and they all have their own story, so we cannot honestly say that any of them are stand-alone successes because we’re proud of all of the projects in their own way.
Thurston EDC: What has been your biggest challenge to date?
Ken and Julie: Every project has its own challenges, but one that stands out is Views on 5th in downtown Olympia.
Thurston EDC: Describe your typical workday.
Ken and Julie: Our typical workday starts with email review and updating lists of things to do. A daily workout follows this, and then it’s off to project sites, our office or meetings—no routine after the morning workout in this business.
Thurston EDC: What is your best advice for an aspiring entrepreneur?
Ken and Julie: Follow your passion and dream big. Don’t focus on the money. The financial gains will follow the drive and dedication.
Thurston EDC: Do you have a business or personal mantra or inspirational quote you’d like to share?
Ken and Julie: Always do the right thing!!!!
