In order to generate less waste and meet customer demand, SW Washington Food Hub, a farmer-owned Cooperative, is now selling customizable produce boxes. The Food Hub’s goal is to make their Multi-Farm Produce boxes an easy-to-use, reasonably priced kit for healthy eating. That’s why their standard markup is 10-17% lower than most grocery stores, and why customers can choose what’s in their box each week. The Hub’s produce is sourced from their farm members and was harvested 24-48 hours before it is shipped out, so it has a long and happy shelf life.

Collectively Southwest Washington Food Hub has over 300 years of farming experience among its 20+ members. Banding together as a Food Hub brings many benefits, in part it helps their farmers address the current labor shortage and reach new markets. Almost all South Sound farms are 1-4 employees short this spring and have had to change what they grow and how they market their products. In the last year, our region has lost 3 major CSA programs, and market attendance by farmers has dropped. Farms have been forced to shutter their once successful marketing streams to make the most of the employees that they have.

SW Washington Food Hub believes through partnership and collaboration they can create new markets, achieve sustainability, and overcome barriers. By providing their consumers with access to multiple producers, they can build a more consistent and broader range of products, further driving market interest, and helping to create a more sustainable local food system.
